Grayson is home…again!!!! We wish he had never had to go back into the hospital but it turned out to be necessary and ultimately we’re glad we made the decision to take him in. Shortly after Gray was admitted we learned he had RSV for the second time. He was given antibiotics and tylenol and, while they did help, before we could leave the hospital we were told Gray needed a blood transfusion. It may sound kind of weird to say but it’s amazing what one blood transfusion can do! Soon after receiving his transfusion Gray perked up! His mood turned completely around and we saw our little boy beaming through once again! Gray was released the next day and we’re oh so happy to be back home! Thank you for all your prayers for a quick recovery. Gray is back to his old 3-year-old-self again! And while that “self” is quite awnry we couldn’t be happier to be laughing, smiling and just being a family. “Just being a family” is something so easily taken for granted. We love this pic! Absolutely love it! Gray somehow made his way into a bakset of clean laundry and, as you can tell, was quite proud of his little idea! Isn’t he just oh so cute!? We certainly think so! Please continue to pray for health in our home. I think it goes without saying that we absolutely, positively, without a doubt DO NOT want to make anymore unscheduled trips to the hospital between now and Gray’s next scheduled treatment. Please also pray for continued strength and rest for us as Gray’s parents and family. Regardless of the good times, and believe me we live for those times, caring for a three year old with cancer never makes for an easy day. We don’t just live day to day or hour to hour…we truly live moment to moment and any prayer for rest and peace is greatly appreciated. In honor of our break from treatment, though, we did want to share some of the sweeter and more memory worthy moments we have shared as a family recently. Obviously, because Gray has been exposed to so many medical procedures in his short life he has learned a thing or two about how to give a shot and heal an ouchie. He now tends to play doctor alot with anything and everything he can get his hands on! Whether he’s accessing Buzz Lightyer’s chemo port or pretending to give medicine to every person to walk through the door, Gray has become quite the little doctor. Most recently he decided that the vacuum cleaner needed some special medical attention! Too funny!

Though cancer is never far from our thoughts, or our daily routine, we cherish the memories we are able to make. Those normal moments that seem to present themselves when you least expect it. Those precious moments. They’re irreplaceable.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

Glad to see he’s home. I am glad to see he is playing doctor with everything. As a child therapist, I can tell you that just means he is working through his emotions surrounding this difficult experience. I would keep encouraging him to do so. As adults we talk about how we feel, children work through traumas through play!! There are also some great doctor kits at target for like $10. My best friends son has Leukemia and I got him one and he plays with it all the time. Hes in our prayers!!

Thank you for sharing your family with us. I am sure that at times it has been a difficult task to just share with the world some of your inner most thoughts and feelings. God has shone through you and thanks for giving us a snippet of reality. It gives me a renewed love for all I am blessed with. Many of my problems seem so small and insignificant, though I know God still has concern for the even the small stuff. Just know that many are stiil praying for strength and peace for you.
“For thou hast been a strength to the poor,a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.” Isaiah 26:4
I hope you are able to enjoy this time, I do believe that God is still doing a great work in Grayson. I praise our wonderful God for what he has done and is doing.
